Elizabeth Leahy Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Leahy

Elizabeth "Betty" Leahy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on January 18, 2019 in San Bruno, California at the age of 100.
Betty was born in 1918 in San Francisco to Michael and Mary Ann O'Brien, grew up on Chenery Street in Glen Park and graduated from St. John's Ursuline High School. In 1941, she married Timothy Leahy and they settled down on Duncan Street in San Francisco where they raised three daughters while Timothy worked for the San Francisco Police Department. They were happily married for 53 years until Timothy passed away in 1994. Betty was also sadly preceded in death by her eldest daughter Mary Anne Philpott and siblings Nellie Gallagher, Alice O'Sullivan, Mary Ann O'Brien, and Johnny O'Brien.
Betty is survived by two daughters Betty (Martin) Falvey and Cecilia (Thomas) Hurley, her sister Cecilia Meek and son-in-law Diarmuid Philpott. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Teresa (Ivan) Sequeira, Tim (Christa) Falvey, Michael (Martha) Philpott, Christine Falvey (Jim Torrens), Brian (Anne Marie) Philpott, Heather Falvey (Ali Samiian), and Bob Hurley along with 13 great-grandchildren: Ann Marie and Julia Sequeira, Conor and Erin Falvey, Jack and Joe Torrens, Michael, Terence, Michaela, Neil and Dermott Philpott, Farrah and Ryan Samiian and many loving nieces and nephews.
Betty was an avid reader and golf enthusiast, but was happiest when surrounded by family and friends at one of the many parties she hosted with Timothy, first on Duncan Street and later in their San Bruno home. The lilt of Irish laughter and song could be heard on many memorable evenings at the Leahy's and will remain cherished memories for all who attended. Betty lived a long and happy life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family thanks San Francisco Kaiser's Hospice Program and Angelito, Lerry and Jay at Westborough Manor for their excellent care of Betty.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Kaiser Hospital's Hospice Program, 4131 Geary Blvd, 4th Fl, SF, CA 94118 or St. Anthony's Dining Room, 150 Golden Gate Avenue, SF, CA 94102.
