Eric Stein, beloved husband of Sharon Leong, passed peacefully on December 26, 2015. Eric was a psychotherapist in private practice in San Francisco for over 30 years. He and Elizabeth "Widge" Nelson founded the secular St. Peter's Place Nursery School (now known as Peter's Place) in the Richmond District of San Francisco in 1974.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I can't believe this! Eric was always there for me whenever I needed him in my teens and twenties. He always understood what I was going through at any given time and offered completely unpretentious, open wisdom and advice on any issue I was facing. I really can't believe he's gone! I remember calling his business number in late Spring-early Summer 2015 and it was then that I found out via the robot operator that he had "permanently closed his practice." I even popped by his office a few months later and saw that his name was still on the exterior display case of therapists who were then-currently in practice at the location. So I called the same number, and found that it had been disconnected/no longer was in service. I wonder if Eric had been going through some health problems at the time, causing him to close his practice spur of the moment, and ultimately passing on 12/26/15. Terribly saddened to learn of his passing just now by looking up his name and title on Google. Rest in Peace forever, Eric. Thank you for all the infinitely valuable help you gave me for over a decade. I will miss you eternally. No doubt you are helping many other souls wherever you are now. Condolences to your wife, Sharon, who was one lucky lady to have you in her life. As were all of your former clients.

Eric always had a smile on his face and a joke at hand no matter what the situation. I'm sure he had bad days, just like the rest of us, but you would never know. He will be missed. A good man who made the world better just left and we are all the worse for it.
Our thoughts are with you Sharon, always.

Eric was a tremendous support to our preschool. He helped our staff and families through some of our darkest days. As an advocate for children and families. Personally, I'll miss his chuckle followed by a profound insight.

The world and all of us have lost a wonderful man and a sweet, loyal, and very caring friend. Eric was so funny, so empathetic, so passionate about his work and beliefs, and so darned smart! I've known Eric and his family from when we were little kids in Kew Gardens Hills, NY. Our fathers worked closely together for decades in the world of producing big ole Random House dictionaries. They liked and respected each other enormously and that mutual respect and admiration for the Stein family was passed right down to me. My biggest regret is not having had more time these past years with Eric and Sharon. Eric: your infectious joy and feisty spirit will be greatly missed. This is so not right!!

I was so sorry to hear of Eric's passing. We visited Eric a number of times to help us with some challenging parenting dynamics and he was unfailingly positive and optimistic. I always found him to be sparkly and warm, exactly as he is shown here in his photo. The world lost a bright light with his death.
