Auntie & Steve

There are really no words to describe the loss I feel for My Uncle Ernie. As a child and as an adult I loved going to your house. I enjoyed all of Uncle's stories about his life. There was never a dull moment in his life. He met changeles head on right then and there. He became like a second Dad to me after I lost my dad. He also became a second Grandpa to my kids. Sara, Ryan and Rebecca. I will be forever greatful to you for that. You will allways have a place in my heat Uncle, I truly miss you. Hope you are wathching over all of us, with the gang up there: My Dad, Uncle Frank, Tommy Lim and all of your buddies you always talked about. On a funny side, Yes I am barefoot right now, and nobody could make me turn RED like you did!! We all miss you terribly. Love Sharon, and all of us Finerty's ox

Uncle Ernie was like a second Dad to me. He and my Dad Tommy were best friends growing up (which is how Dad met my Mom, Marion - baby sister to Uncle Ernie) I stayed with them in Daly City when I was a year old because Dad had TB and Mom was taking care of him in our new town Stockton. I have general impressions of that time, but I remember staying with he and Aunt Tree during the summers when I was growing up. I will never forget his "hee hee hee" laugh and calling me sweetheart and the way it came out in that Butchertown way - "sweeeeehaaaaht".

Uncle Ernie and my hubby Chris shared a love of good french bread. When Uncle Ernie was about to slice the bread he would keep moving the knife to slice a bigger piece while Chris watched and never said "stop" :) It was a funny game of "bread chicken" they played.

By chance we were able to see him in June when we detoured through Pacifica to Pescadero (only to find out the 1 was closed at Devil's Slide). Uncle Ernie provided us with very detailed directions for an alternate route (his directions are legendary). The look of surprise on his face when we showed up at Mazzetti's that day was priceless. He bought us sweeties and Maggie some sparkling candles, which I must say I will have to keep at least one in the package with a note to mark that date.

We will miss Uncle Ernie terribly, but he and many good memories will be in our hearts always.
