Flora was born in a farmhouse in Framboise on Cape Breton Island, another MacKinnon with strong Scottish roots from The Isle of Skye. She grew up in Sydney with her older brother Harold and beloved younger sister Lillian whom both preceded her in death. She was a Nurse. She was born to be a Nurse. After arriving in San Francisco, she landed a job at French Hospital, a special place where she made friendships that lasted until the day she died. When French closed she worked at The Sequoia's Senior Living where she made a new lifelong friend, Loretta Yurkov. At age 25 she met and married Jack Bennett, a free spirted adventurer 11 years her senior. In 1964 they moved to their home in Mill Valley where they raised four children, Becky, Bruce, Scott and Jill. Flora was a hardcore Giants fan and thanks to her dear friend, Patrick Landers she was at AT&T Park when Barry Bonds hit his record breaking home run! Flora touched so many lives with her genuine, caring down to Earth spirit and made many friends on her daily walks with her Pugs, Buddha and Ellie. Flora spent many nights watching Jeopardy and Wheel, with Bob the cockatiel planted firmly on her left shoulder. Flora loved the ocean and spent many days out at Fort Cronkhite Beach people and dog watching, hob-nobbing with her surfer friends, making up stories about the other 'regulars', marveling at the ever changing ocean landscape, feeding peanuts to her Ravens and watching the glorious sunsets as they faded into the gloaming; She would always say, " We are so lucky!" At 8AM on February 23, 2025, Flora's services were needed elsewhere and with her family by her side, her soul slipped peacefully from her body and away from this mysterious, beautiful, blue planet. She will be missed forever…
