Fred Braun Obituary

Fred Braun, Jr. September 18, 1916 - July 25, 2006 Fred Braun Jr., a native San Franciscan passed away on July 25, 2006 to join his beloved sister, Lillian Harman, who entered the Lord's Kingdom two weeks earlier. Well renowned in the local real estate industry, an actor and a philanthropist, Fred is survived by his close friend and confidante of 25 years Hisashi Numata; nephew, Rick Harman; long time caregiver, Emi Hayashi; and his dearly beloved four-legged companion Lexy. During his life time, Fred founded and supported numerous charitable organizations such as the Saint Francis Heritage Society, The Episcopal Sanctuary for the homeless, The Daughters of Charity, The National Botanical Society of America and co-chaired the restoration of Huntington Park Nob Hill and the Fine Arts Committee of Filoli. In recent years, Fred expressed a profound fondness towards animal organizations. Fred touched the lives of many people and his sense of humor and adventurous spirit will be sorely missed. A private celebration of Fred's life was held on July 30, 2006. In lieu of flowers, it was his wish that donations be made to Guide Dogs For The Blind located in San Rafael.

Although we met Fred just a few times, we were impressed by his wit and uncanny sense of humor. Over the years, we came to know him well through our good friend, Hisashi Numata and would often get updates and exchange greetings with each other. And many times, share a laugh to two. We will miss this relationship and wish to express our sympathy to those closest to him.

It was my great privilege to become acquainted with Fred in the last few years through his sister, Lillian, who was our dear friend and neighbor. I will always remember his caring spirit, contagious sense of humor and be forever grateful for introducing us to Filoli (a historical mansion and gardens in Woodside), which has brought us many hours of joy.

May the God of all comfort surround each one who is grieving and may his life inspire us to encourage those in need.
