Fred Levinson Obituary

Fred Levinson Beloved father of Jake (the light of Fred's life); husband of Barbara; brother of Larry; and uncle to Casandra, Hilary, Elisa, Sarah, Tony and Suzi; great-uncle to Max, Hannah, Noah, Katie and Abby and good friend to Taylor, passed away on May 15, 2008 at age 72. Fred was a one of a kind, unique character. He was highly intelligent, a great conversationalist, and loved reading books on all subjects while sitting with a glass of Russian vodka. He was an authority on many subjects ranging from horticulture to antique tools and arms to world history to Judaica. He really enjoyed spending time outdoors in nature and gardening. He was a collector of many things, including pipes, antique tools and books. Fred was a chef who loved to cook exotic foods that he artfully served and enjoyed eating. Fred had an amazing, eclectic group of extended family and friends. He took wonderful care of so many people and will be greatly missed. The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Congregation Sherith Israel, 2266 California Street, San Francisco at 3:00 pm. Fred,
you meant more to me than you will ever know. You have been there for me and my wife during some tuff times. You became my friend in time of need and will always be in my heart and on my mind. I 'll miss bringing you my wines to drink and the cheese you so enjoyed. You are whats missing in our world today. God speed old friend. And thanks for being you.

My thoughts are with Barbara and Jake today and always.....

Fred was first our therapist and quickly became our friend. He gave us direction in our lives in a way only he could. He was a true "Bohemian" man full of wisdom! We'll miss sipping on green tea together, watching you jump up and yell at the phone every time it rang (but you would always answer it), the smell of your pipe after the constant "this doesn't bother you does it?", your leap to grab a book and know just what page to turn to when something crossed your mind and most of all, your big, big presence. We miss you pal.
