Frederic Carver Obituary

Frederic Lee Carver Tile/marble setter and storyteller extraordinaire, died on April 27, 2006, one day before his 60th birthday, in the Castro District of San Francisco when his car was struck by a red light runner suffering a seizure. He perished despite the valiant efforts of so many who rushed to his aid. A native of the hills and "hollers" of West Virginia, he came out west to California following a naval tour of duty in Vietnam. Here he fell in love with our beautiful city, and tiled much of it. He was a good ol' country boy. A yarn spinner with the heart of a poet and the hands of an artist. "That boy don't need pen nor paper." He was a singin', dancin' fool. His great absence is mourned by his long time sweetheart, partner and sidekick, Judy Chew, and so many in this city who knew and loved his one-man guerilla theater and his listening heart. He is survived by his father, Carl Carver, Jr. of KY; aunt, Ernestine Smith of WV; sisters, Okla Coombs of UT and Christine Jordan of Georgia; and brother, Kenny Perry of NC. An informal memorial will be held inside the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park on June 4, 2006, 5-6pm (meet at the big Buddha, near the teahouse). A reception will be held afterwards at Cafe Gratitude, 1336 9th Ave./lrving.
