April 6, 1937 - October 5, 2019
A long time resident of San Francisco, Fredric Saichi Kawahara passed away peacefully at home on October 5th, 2019 at the age of 82. Saichi was born on April 6, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii, He grew up in Paoua where he was surrounded by Hawaiian music and culture that would influence him throughout his whole life."When it came to Hawaiian music, there was no one more passionate and knowledgeable than Saichi. His influence as a mentor, musician, bandleader, activist, historian, editor, producer, and the best 'ukulele teacher ever-is immeasurable."
Memorial services will be held on Nov 23, 2019 at The Event Center at St Mary's Cathedral, 1111 Gough St., San Francisco. Doors open at 11 AM, program begins at noon.
