Mr. George Henry Ilog, age 96, of San Francisco, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2022, surrounded by his family.
George was born on August 13th, 1925 in San Francisco, to the late George Ilog and Veronica Ilog of San Francisco.
George is preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years, Mary, who passed away just 5 months ago. George is survived by his son, Dennis, of San Francisco; daughter, Nancy Thompson, of Walnut Creek; grandchildren: Matt Thompson of Walnut Creek and Megan (Thompson) Hunter of Royal Tunbridge Wells, England. George is also lovingly remembered by his cousin, June (Ilog) Elliot; cousins: Karen, Charles and Bruce Elliot; and by other family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
George was truly a member of the greatest generation. He grew up during the Depression and his first job was selling newspapers at 16th and Valencia Streets in San Francisco's Mission District. He delivered telegrams, delivered packages along the Embarcadero, worked in the Kaiser shipyards, and in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy. After the war, he worked as a machinist until he was able to become an apprentice in the Local 38 Plumbers Union. In 1962, he began his career in the San Francisco Water Department, ultimately rising through the ranks to become the superintendent of the distribution division of the San Francisco Water Department.
George had exceptional skills and talents in many areas and was always anxious to provide much help to family, friends and neighbors.
George really looked forward each year to vacations in the national parks throughout the West and Southwest; sport fishing in the San Francisco Bay; trips to Reno, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe; and eating at his favorite Italian restaurant, Joe's at Westlake.
The immediate family attended Mass at Church of the Epiphany, and private services were held at the Italian Cemetery, Colma.
