George Moore Obituary

George Elbert Moore, Jr.

George Elbert "George Henry" Moore passed away peacefully at home on Monday March 29 2021, in Walnut Creek California, at the age of 93. He was born to George Elbert and Hazel Sowl (Yarrington) Moore of Sterling, Colorado, and overcame a very rough childhood to become a remarkable and influential man who will be mourned by many.

George was preceded in death by his eldest son George E. Moore III, his siblings Kenneth, Donna and Marie, and his beloved companion and partner in life Betty Jane Stewart, who passed in 2017.
He is survived by his children Catherine Jean Smith, Susan Marie (Gibbs) Marchetti and Roger Alan Dale-Moore, as well as 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, and his beloved sister "Babe", Winona May Hanna. His large circle of friends and especially Betty's daughter Jeri Lynn Brant will also miss him terribly.

George made Walnut Creek his home in 1953 and started the Yellow Cab Company on August 5, 1955. It was a huge part of his life and he loved mentoring his employees and friends, hosting breakfasts every Sunday morning that always included games of Liar's Dice. He was much admired for his fierce work ethic and his generosity of heart towards anyone who needed a helping hand. George loved the life he and Betty built, with an aviary full of birds in the backyard and his dog Dolly by his side, and he always felt grateful for his long and full life and for the opportunity to share his good fortune.

In lieu of flowers please honor George with donations to The Shriners.

Oh my. A visit to George and Betty's house was always an adventure! The aviary was beyond my wildest imaginings and boy did we have fun in the outdoor kitchen! Always so quick to say something kind with that smile. I was grown when I got to know George and I am so very thankful for such wonderful memories. Holding space in my heart and offering my most sincere sympathies for all. Much love.
