Gioacchino Cardinale Memoriam

Gioacchino Cardinale
August 25, 1937 - February 14, 2025
"Jack" passed away at age 87, after valiantly fighting illness for over 4 years. Born on the island of Marettimo, Sicily, Jack moved to San Francisco in 1953, attended Francisco Junior High and Galileo High School and enjoyed a long career in the fish industry both in San Francisco and Alaska. In 1959, he returned to Marettimo to marry the love of his life, Gilda. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Gilda; his daughter, Marie Wilhelm (Ray); sons, Sal (Rosa), Vince (Dana); and 6 grandchildren, Stephanie, Laurence, Max, Jack, Lexi and Calista; brother-in-law, Joe; sister-in-law, Phyllis; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in San Francisco, Monterey and Marettimo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore and Maria; brothers, Joe (Catherine), Sal (Sarah). He will be remembered for his love of family, great sense of humor, and practical jokes. He touched many lives and will be sadly missed.
Rosary and Funeral Mass Thursday, February 27, at 10:30 AM, at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert St., San Francisco, followed by burial at Italian Cemetery, Colma.

How very fast the years have flown! Over 50 years ago, Gilda and I would be in the St. Vincent de Paul schoolyard waiting for our children after school. Vince was in the same class as one of our daughters, and Gilda was one of the mothers I, especially, enjoying talking with, as I loved her charming Italian accent, and her name. Have, always, loved opera, and at that time, "Rigoletto", in which Gilda is one of the main characters, was my favorite. I remember telling her this, and she seemed flattered by the compliment.
And, now, as she has lost the most important person in her life, I want to send my prayers and sincere sympathy to her and the family. Warm hugs to stay strong. And an extra hug to Marie and Ray, who were, always, so nice to us.

A very kind and gentle man . I wish to express my sympathy for his wife and family . He was a very hard working man that was able to raise a wonderful family . He leaves behind an incredible legacy and a loving wife , children and grandchildren to continue to carry on his memory .
