Gordon Ball Obituary

Gordon "Nate" Nathan Ball
10/13/1934 - 06/17/2024
Gordon Nathan "Nate" Ball, 89, a longtime resident of Alamo, California, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 17, 2024, at his home in Alamo.
Nate was born on October 13, 1934, in Berkeley, California and grew up in Alamo. He attended San Ramon Valley High School from 1948 to 1952, where he excelled in football and track. Following his high school years, Nate served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954. He saw action in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery and service.
In the 1960s, Nate worked for his father at Gordon H. Ball Construction. Demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to found his own company, Ball, Ball & Brosamer, in 1972. In 1995, Nate started Gordon N. Ball, Inc. and retired in 2000. His leadership and innovation made him a West Coast icon in the heavy construction industry, leaving a significant and lasting impact.
Nate was an avid golfer and a beloved member of Round Hill Country Club for 58 years. He was a dedicated father who loved supporting his children and grandsons in their sports and other endeavors. In 1980, he founded the legendary Walnut Creek Bandidos travel soccer club, which has had a lasting impact on the community. He is also honored in the San Ramon Valley Little League Hall of Fame for his contributions and dedication.
Nate's life was marked by his commitment to his family, his community, and his country. His legacy of strength, courage, and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Shannon Ball Jones (58) and Patrick Ball (52); his son-in-law, Jeff Jones; his daughter-in-law, Liz Ball; his grandchildren, Grant Jones, Carson Jones, Ryan Ball, Jake Ball, Nathan Ball, and Wyatt Ball; and his long-time partner of 24 years, Evelyn Mathews. He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon Ball, Jr., who passed in 2012. He is also remembered by numerous friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28th, at 10 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Danville, CA.
