Gordon Pedersen died peacefully at home on October 18. All who knew him will miss his wry humor and gentle spirit.
Gordon was born in San Francisco to Dorothy Rohde and Christian Pedersen. His mother was a commercial artist and his father owned a fledgling linoleum business, Chris Pedersen Linoleum.
Gordon lost his mother to illness at the age of eight. Two years later, his father married Josephine Sherer, who brought a set of grandparents, two older stepsisters, and a baby half sister into his life.
After graduating from San Mateo High, Gordon spent four years in the Air Force, stationed in Germany and Japan. Upon returning home, he went to work in his father's store, eventually taking over the business.
In 1963 Gordon married Caroline Hilber. In the ensuing years, he loved traveling to Austria to visit Caroline's family.
An avid coin collector and a discerning scavenger, Gordon amassed enough old San Francisco cobblestones from long walks on Coyote Point to landscape a beautiful garden.
Gordon is predeceased by his parents and his stepsister Marie Grant. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Caroline Pedersen; a stepson, Gerhard Hilber, of Austria; his stepsister, Dolores Willett of Novato; and his half-sister, Karin Burger of Petaluma. He is also survived by four nephews and three nieces, three grandnephews and four grandnieces.
A private burial will be held at Skylawn Cemetery in San Mateo.
