Gregory Simon

Gregory R. Simon 10 August 1964-29 October 2010 Greg (46) left this world too soon. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Heidi Locke Simon, and their daughter, Macquarie Amiela Simon, of Mill Valley, CA; his mother Nancy Simon Stearns of Wonalancet, NH; his father Frank J. Simon and wife Paula Loring Simon of Stamford, CT; and a wide circle of friends. Greg is a graduate of the Renbrook School in West Hartford; Phillips Academy, Andover, Class of 1983, and Stanford University, Class of 1987. He was a teacher, a bilingual Spanish speaker, an advocate for solar energy and electric vehicles, and a lacrosse referee in tournaments around the world. A founder of Zebrawear, he patented and manufactured a new digital timer for lacrosse games and served his brotherhood of officials with great gear. Greg had many passions in his life, above all for his family and abundant friends, environmental causes and vigorous athletic pursuits. Greg swam in the Bay, completing the Polar Bear challenge many winters at the San Francisco Dolphin Club. He cycled across the country and explored other remote areas of the planet. He was the proud owner of a RAV4 electric vehicle, recently logging 100K+ zero emission miles. He was an early proponent of solar energy and has helped fund and install systems at home, school, the barn, the Dolphin Club and in Peru. He has also encouraged numerous people to consider solar at their homes and was always generous with his time to provide advice. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, November 20 at 11:30am on the lacrosse field at Tamalpais High School. Contributions can be made in Greg's memory to one of many areas that mattered to him: Macquarie's education fund at New Resource Bank in San Francisco; the solar project at Mount Tamalpais School; a memorial fund at Andover; a recognition being created in the lacrosse world; or one of the many non-profits he supported himself (San Francisco Electric Vehicle Association, San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, Save the Bay) or along with Heidi (Melanoma Therapeutics Foundation, Teens Turning Green, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy or KQED). Since his time living in Australia, he would close every note with "No worries, Simo"
