Herbert Faulkner Obituary

Herbert W. Faulkner

Herbert William Faulkner passed away at age 95 on March 3, 2013 in San Rafael, California.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Herb grew up in Berkeley, where he attended Berkeley High School. While there, he joined the school band discovering his love of percussion.

Herb would later start his own big band,  performing for society events and almost every military base in and around the Bay Area.

But music would always remain a sideline for Herb, who started working for Wells Fargo Bank right out of high school in 1936. With the arrival of World War 2 he joined the U.S. Army later entering Officers' Training School in 1944 where he would be in charge of the Machine Records Unit in the Quartermaster's Corp.

During this time he met a pretty registered nurse and his future wife, Helen Wallace. They were married in Carmel, California in October 1942.

At the war's end, Herb rejoined the bank, organizing its first Tabulating Department, the forerunner of the bank's multinational IT organization. By the time he retired 46 years later as Senior Vice President, he had also launched Wells Fargo insurance services.

Through the years, Helen and Herb raised their three children, first in Oakland and then later in Moraga. After his retirement, they enjoyed traveling to visit their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Herb will be missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his daughters Susan McDonald and Patsy Faulkner and his son, Curt Faulkner, by his grandchildren Laurie DeLaney, Amy Romberger, Mac and Katie Faulkner, great grandchildren Matt, Jake, and Jordyn DeLaney, and Maille, Zack, Kanan, and Angelina Romberger.

Herb was a true gentleman and the best dresser at Wells Fargo back in the 70s. Please know that he was very much admired and respected, and how wonderful that he had such a long and happy life.
