HERMAN WIENER Obituary

Herman D. Wiener Our "Papi & Opi" passed away peacefully at age 86 on Tuesday July 24th, 2012 with his family at his side. Herman was a Holocaust survivor who lived the American dream. The sole survivor of his family, he and his wife Eva and their young children, immigrated to this country in 1959 with little money and speaking little English. With an incredible work ethic, over a period of 41 years he rose from houseman to the position of General Manager at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. He was a role model and mentor to many current industry leaders. A host to presidents and prime ministers, he was an icon in the hotel industry, being the only individual ever to earn the AAA Five Diamond Award. His guiding principle was his devotion to his family. His greatest joy was sharing life with his loving wife, Eva; his four children, Regina (Lewis) Goldberg, Hennie (Jay) Lichman, Ruthie (Steve) Tolleson, David (Linda) Wiener; and six grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Lewis, Lauren, Danielle (Kyle), Evan, Matthew and Alex. They will miss his warm smile, loving hugs, and contagious laugh. His work ethic and love of family live on in each of them; and will be passed on to future generations. Graveside services will be held TODAY, Friday, July 27th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Memorial Park, 1171 El Camino Real, Colma, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. or The Alzheimer's Association.

Dear David and family,
I am sorry to hear of Mr.Wieners passing. He lived a remarkable life and you are all testament to his grace and dignity. I will always remember our trip to Berlin, people lined up just to speak to him, not even about the hotel, just to pay their respects. His was a life filled with purpose and class. May he rest in peace.

Love,

Dear Wiener family,

You don't know me. But i knew Herman quite well. I met him during the 5 years I spent at KSFO, when its studios were in The Fairmont. I have some wonderful stories to tell you about dear Herman (what a terrific man). If you'd like to hear them, just drop me a quick note via email ([email protected]) and I'll send you a voice recording. My thoughts are with you today.
