Hille Novak Obituary
NOVAK - Hille Novak (nee Mäe, previously Sonin) Gently at peace, in San Francisco, on October 10th, 2021.
A courageous heart and fiercely independent, Hille embraced a peaceful passing after a decade of kidney disease and valiant dance with cancer.
Born in Tallinn, Estonia, growing up through World War II, she lived in post-war Germany, Sweden, and Canada before permanently settling in the United States during the 1960s. Educated in library sciences (BLS) at the University of Toronto (Canada), Hille's professional influences were felt at Harvard University's Law School and throughout a distinguished career as Acquisitions Librarian at the University of San Francisco's Gleeson Library. Hille enjoyed many treasured affiliations and friendships at USF and among faculty and staff, and was a long-time member of the San Francisco Commonwealth Club and the Book Club of California.
A vivacious and avid world traveler, Hille will be cherished and missed by all who knew and met her.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Victor Novak (2011) and dear sister Ilme Regina (2017, Toronto, Canada). Much beloved by family in Canada, nieces and nephew Julieanne Grimaldi (Frank), Lucy Haniak (Steve), and Tom Regina (Lauren McInnes); grand-nieces and -nephews, Rachel Regina (Kyle Danilko), Jocelyn Regina (Douglas Walker), Leo Regina, Justyn Grimaldi; and great grand-nephew and -niece, Lachlan Walker and Elowyn Mäe-Danilko.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will occur post-Covid. Donations may be made in Hille's memory to the Humane Society, World Wildlife Federation, or the University of San Francisco (Gleeson Library).

I´m so sorry about Hille´s passing. I met her when her kind husband, Victor came to stay in our Care Home.
I had many visits with her. She was such a lovely lady, always looking beautiful and a very loving wife. I will always remember her with love. Carole Nobis
