J. Bean Obituary

J. Ronald Bean
07/14/1936 - 01/05/2025
J. Ronald Bean M.D., known to friends and family as Ron Bean, passed away at home on January 5, 2025.
Ron was a Bakersfield boy who graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cal and received his MD from UCSF. He trained as a psychiatrist at Albert Einstein College in New York and spent many years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.
Dr. Bean set up a private psychiatry practice in San Francisco, where he worked for four decades. Following his retirement from that profession, he became a well-known autoharp player who performed regularly at open mikes and festivals. He also recorded many videos and CDs of his music.
Ron was preceded in death by Marilyn Daniel Bean, his wife of six decades. He is survived by his children Jennifer Ruth Bean (Adam Miller), Wilson Daniel Bean (Elizabeth), and Angus Edwin Bean, as well as by his beloved grandchildren Brittany Elizabeth Bean, Ava Nicole Swanson (Logan), Sarah Josephine Miller, Wilson Reed Bean, and Abigail Rose Miller.
Ron is remembered by those who loved him as a creative, hard-working individual who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to all his endeavors.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Neptune Society Columbarium in San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, Ron requested donations be made to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism:
