J. DeLong Obituary
04/23/1932 - 01/18/2025
Rev. J. Allen DeLong S.M., a native of Northern California, passed away on January 18, 2025 in Cupertino, CA. He joined the Society of Mary (Marianists) and made his first vows as a religious brother in 1953. He began his teaching career at St. Anthony's High School on Maui, HI; then at Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, CA. In 1964, Allen became the founding Principal of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, CA.
Allen went to the seminary in Toronto, Canada, and was ordained a Marianist priest in 1977. In 1978 he began ten years of ministry at Chaminade College Prep In Los Angeles, CA, serving as teacher, campus minister and President of the School. From 1999 to 2006, he served as President of Saint Louis High School in Honolulu.
Then, he moved to Kenya,
Africa, for 4 ½ years where he served as Assistant Novice Master, training young Africans in preparation for taking vows as religious brothers in the Society of Mary. Allen returned to Maui in 2012 as Associate Pastor at St. Anthony Parish. In 2015, he accepted the position of Campus Minister at Saint Louis School back in Honolulu before retiring to Cupertino in 2021.
Allen is survived by his sister, Joan Gori of Santa Rosa; his nephew, John Gori, cousins, and grand-nephews.
Friends are invited to his viewing at 4:15pm & Vigil Service at 5:00pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, and his Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 10:00am. All services take place at the Marianist Center, 22683 Alcalde Rd, Cupertino, CA 95014. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos, CA 94024.

Fr. Allen was a strong, kind soul with a wonderful way with young adults. I attended Chaminade College Prep when he was there and he taught me so much about myself and my relationship with God. He holds an irrevocable place in my heart. I am grateful to have known him at such a critical time of my life.

Bro DeLong was my trigonometry teacher my senior year, '61/'62, at ARHS. He held "catch up" sessions, for those students interested, late Sunday afternoons. Those sessions were invaluable. A wonderful teacher and role model.

Fr. J.Allen Delong is my cousin, my Godfather and mentor. May name is Jan Lenzini. When I was small, he would send a typed letter too me,checking up my school work and grades. A phone calls or having fun on a Saturday collecting newspapers too raise money for a school cause.especially when Allen was in town. Never a quite table, super good food. Much more but not enough room. Im proud of Allen of all he has done in the 70 years of service. You are love and will be missed. RIP attaching some pics
