JACK GALVIN Obituary

Jack Junior Galvin 10-23-1921 to 7-15-2012 Jack Galvin was born in San Francisco to John T. Galvin and Anita Thom Galvin. The family increased five years later to include sister Shirley, after which the family moved to Redwood City in 1931 where they resided for many years. Jack played right end at Sequoia Union HS and was "All PAL" 1939 football, played for Modesto Jr. College as an "All conference" tight end and later for San Jose State. While at San Jose State he traveled to Hawaii to play a game and witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7th 1941. He helped after the attack and did not return to Redwood City until Christmas Eve where he knocked on his front door just in time to join the family for Xmas dinner. He joined the Marines and served in the Samoan Islands until discharged in 1945. He met Lillian Hamilton and they married in 1944. He then went to San Jose State to become a commercial artist and eventually returned to obtain a Masters Degree and teachers credential to become a fine arts teacher at Hayward and Castro Valley High Schools. During his teaching career he resided in Danville and raised his family which included daughters Bonnie, Kathy, Kelly and son Timothy. He and Lillian retired to Arnold in 1982. They tired of the snowy winters and moved to Columbia in 1997. Lillian passed in 2000. Jack eventually met and married Joyce Bell of Citrus Heights and moved there in 2005 where they resided until he passed. Jack is survived by his wife Joyce and her four children (Ted Bell, Brenda Greco, Becky Weston and Bonnie Grilly) ten grandchildren and seven great grand children. Jack is also survived by his four children (Bonnie J. Zucco, Kathleen Galvin, Kelly Galvin, Timothy Galvin, four grandchildren, Johnnie and Tracie Walker, Sean Galvin and Brittany Vanderbloom, one great grandchild Braylon, and his sister Shirley Nell. A service for Jack will be held at 2 PM on Friday July 20th at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon CA. Phone 707-693-2460, a reception will be held after. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of choice.

So sorry for your loss. He and Lilian visited Ireland to see her cousin, also Lillian, and I had the pleasure of meeting them. He was a truly lovely man. So sorry I never got to meet him again.

I remember Jack when we hiked the trails at Lake Tahoe, with the backpacking class. Me along for the girls, he was alsways so kind to us females. I loved visiting he and Lillian at there cabin up in Arnold. I will always have wonderful memories of Jack. My praysers are with his family.

I remember Jack at Canyon HS. Such a gentleman and funny, had a lot of fun where he and I were at parties together with the canyon group. So sorry for your loss, know you will miss him. Ferne Freitas.
