James Boike Obituary

James Anthony Boike

1/5/56 – 9/6/14

With inconsolable grief I write that my husband, my best friend, passed away on Sat. 9-6-14 while on our annual Shasta houseboat trip. God decided He needed my soul mate more than I do – now, I will try to live without him. Born and raised in SSF he was a 1974 graduate of El Camino High. Together we have run Bay Cities Printing & Graphics for 28 years. He was an honest, hardworking man with a strong sense of right and wrong who always treated others fairly. Jim's generous heart led him to help others in any possible way, simply because it was the right thing to do. Several business associates became close personal friends. It is a testament to him that his multitude of friends were of all walks of life and age groups. Jim was larger than life with a vibrant personality who lit up any room he entered. He greeted each day with a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his face. His sense of humor was contagious and his laugh could be heard for miles. He loved to tell stories and describe adventures with his narrative usually including some off-color vocabulary – to quote a friend "though he could talk like a sailor, he was a teddy bear at heart." Jim had a keen awareness of his surroundings with an insatiable curiosity. He was always learning something new and he never stopped opening my eyes to his discoveries. Life with Jim was part Discovery channel, History channel and all fun.

Jim was an avid bass fisherman frequently fishing the Delta, Clear Lake, Shasta & Oroville. He participated in several tournaments, took under-privileged kids and Veterans fishing and spent hours tinkering with various rods, reels & lures. His TR22 boat was prized possession. He was a life- long duck hunter who spent many hours with our dog Nikki and his buddies in a duck blind. Golf was also a hobby and he got his first hole-in-one this year. Of great amusement to him was to win golf bets and have his buddies sign the dollar bills to prove that they lost – he still has all of the winnings. His supply of laughter for all of his friends was never ending and will be deeply missed. Jim also gave his time as a Board Member of the SF Chapter of the NFF-COF.

We met 9-5-75 and married 5-20-78. He wrapped me in his cocoon of deep, unconditional love and kept the sun forever shining in our world. His support for me was unwavering, his patience unlimited, his strong arms always there to hold me and his words & laughter music to my ears. He loved to sing and would make up words if he forgot the lyrics. He would stop in the middle of anything and pull me close to dance. He included me in everything and took me with him everywhere. I'm sure some of his friends got sick of seeing me! Jim made my life an adventure whether at home or in Alaska or Costa Rica. He infused in me his joy of life which filled me with wonder, warmth, laughter and a sense of awe. He loved to tell me I was an old lady, then laugh, hug me and tell me I was "hot". He put me on a pedestal from which in his eyes I would never fall. Simply put, we were everything to each other. My love, you took such good care of my heart and it is there I will carry you through eternity. Thank you for giving me 40 incredibly wonderful years.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Jim & Norma Boike. He leaves his wife & buddy Coleen; sisters Irene Santoni & Patricia Green; sister in law & brother in law Maureen Hughes & Dick Unsinn; niece Jenne (Green) Johnson (Pat); nephew Tyler Green; loving mother in law Grace Hughes; father in law Richard (Pegi) Hughes; close cousins Judy & Nick Eterovich. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, cousins and an outstanding group of longtime friends.

Services 10:00 am Wed. 9-17-14 Duggan's Serra Mortuary 500 Westlake Ave. Daly City. Celebration of Jim immediately following at Green Hills Country Club, Millbrae. Private family burial at sea. In lieu of flowers donations to Make A Wish, St. Judes or Wounded Warriors or your favorite charity appreciated.

So long ago, and yet still seems so fresh in my mind. Most especially for Coleen, whom we remember and hold close in thought. Jim has surely brought his own JOY to Heaven and it's a livelier place, that I'm sure of. His voice echos in my mind, his dazzling smile and sparkling eyes remain a happy memory. Blessings to you, dear Coleen. See you when it's time, Jim.

Oh Jim I still can't believe you had to leave us so soon. At least you got to do almost everything you loved one more time before you had to go. You sang to Coleen all the way to Shasta, you were on 1 of your favorite trips, you drove your boat, you had a cigar and a sip of Crown Royal and than you left. We will all try and take care of your "soul mate" as best we can.
Please come to Coleen as much as possible. She needs to feel you close to her, surround her in your warm spirit and let her feel you there, come to her in her dreams. I miss and love you so much. your favorite sister in law (your only sister in law)

Hello Again Coleen,
This is my second message. I keep thinking of so many things that made Jim special. I was his customer when he was still with Vanier Graphics and Bay Cities was a plan-in-the-making. I never doubted he'd make it happen and I was happy to continue supporting along the way. I think of you often and wish you didn't have to go thru this time of grief. I hope you will feel the comfort of Jim's continuing love, and the love of God as well. Do not hesitate to call upon your friends and family for support. Take it from one who became a Widow at age 60. I do understand. Blessings to you. Nancy

Drake and I were so deeply saddened to hear about Jim. Although we did not keep in touch after high school, I always remember him as a fun and up beat guy with a contagious personality. I can still hear his laugh. People wanted to be around him. God Bless you Jim...and our sincerest condolences to Colleen and the Boike Family.

I met Boike through Joe Grillo in a travelling Golf Club which Joe & Jim belonged to, about 15 years ago. Everyone called him "Boike". Jim Boike was a very unique, very independent, very strong, very personable person visiting here on earth. I was blessed to have become an acquaintance/friend of him. On the golf course, he could be heard 4 holes away-his laughter was huge, his friendship was honored, and his putting was not that good. To have Jim Boike in the same room with you/others, you knew you were in a jovial place. Jim Boike was a very respected person wherever he walked. Through my business, Jim Boike introduced me to Colleen, and immediately, I could see Jim & Colleen were HOH (Head Over Heals) for each other, since High School, from South City. This Fairy Tale was true to form. Colleen's beautiful summary of their epic life together is the most beautiful summary of two people so much in love I have ever read. Boike is already organizing some type Duck/Fishing/Golf clubs up in the back, left corner of Heaven. I'm sure he also has many Angels appointed to watch over Colleen-I guarantee it. Colleen, I am so, so sorry your earthly bond did not last another 30 years or more. ~ Ron Smith, San Jose,

Colleen and family- Thank you very much for your beautiful message about your soulmate, it was wonderful of you to share! I think I can say from all of us ladies from Sharp Park, who had the pleasure of being teamed in golf groups with Jim, that from the first moment we met, he really was that "bigger than life" human in every sense. He was fun, gracious, cheered us on and told us he was mad if we lost, even to him! As your message said- his laugh was wonderful- it was an amazing infectious one of just plain joy of life. I met you once and hope to meet you again- I can't imagine your grief in losing Jim. As so many will say, and I truly believe, he's up there- God's angel, watching, protecting, guiding, loving and waiting for you and us. My husband Jeff will be at the service, which unfortunately I cannot attend- We will miss him but never forget his wonderful heart and soul. God bless you and keep you during this very difficult time.
Love, Jeff Volosing and Lisa Villasenor Volosing. Xoxo

What a beautiful obituary of a real man! My deepest condolences. May you continue to find comfort from family and friends at this time of great sorrow. And may you find comfort in knowing that when God restores Paradise, he will undo all causes of suffering. (Ps. 37:11) Then our tears of sorrow will become tears of great joy.

September 14, 2014

Dear Coleen and all the Boike Family,
My husband Bill and I were classmates of Jim in high school. My husband knew Jim previously in grade school and junior high. I remember in the halls of El Camino that Jim was always the nicest boy, with a smile on his face. Never heard him utter an unkind word about anyone! As we were preparing to go to our 40th reunion, Bob Chapelle relayed the sad news of Jim's passing. Needless to say we were all shocked. Your beautiful words made a lasting impression on us and we offer you our sincerest condolences. May God bless and keep you all in his care.
Sincerely,
Cindi and Bill Ekberg

Dear Coleen, I am utterly shocked to hear about Jim's death. You and Jim always lit up my day whenever we encountered each other on Hubbard or Scenic Drive as I walked my dogs. Jim would always slow down the car, lower the window and share a few neighborly words and a bright smile. He was a special guy and all of us in the neighborhood will miss him. What a wonderful life you led together. What a beautiful tribute you wrote for him. I am so deeply sorry about your devastating loss. Hugs.

Utter shock! The first year I miss the houseboat in 11yrs and this horrible, unfortunate and sad event happens. I have had a tough time dealing with the news and can just imagine how hard it must be for Colleen and the family. You talk about 2 guys with 2 different viewpoints/lifestyles, we became fast friends as he accepted me into his world of fun and friends. We could not talk for months and the next time we saw each other, we were like good ol' pals that see each other everyday. He was a great friend who provided fatherly advice at times and I will truly miss him....

Colleen I'm so sorry for your loss I'm still in shock. Jim was and always will be remembered as the brightest light in the room. I remembered the day I stood up with him when you married and again when you two renewed your vows. He was the happiest and proudest man I have had the pleasure to call a friend. His story telling and smile were second to none. He loved you so much and your years together are a testament to that. Those who he knew and those whose lives he touched, the world just became a little dimmer. Jim left us too soon. There are so many more stories waiting to unfold. Heaven is lucky to have received a master story teller and a singer extraordinaire!
Love,
Mike

Collen. My heart truly breaks for you. As I've said before, you and Jim were extremely lucky to have met and married. You were together practically 24/7 and really, really loved one another.Having known Jim since we were next door neighbors and infants together in South City, I can honestly say that he was one of a kind, in so many ways. Jim was taken way to soon, but rest assured that he has a big smile on his face right now, and is with his parents and mine. I've always loved both of you guys. Take care.
