Jane was born at home in Piedmont, California, the daughter of the late Emma and Walter Gabriel, sister of the late Barbara Gabriel Sutherland, Mary Gabriel Yates, and Francis Gabriel.
She graduated from Piedmont High School in 1932 and UC Berkeley in 1937, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She met her husband, Richard Belcher II, while at Cal and married him in 1941. He passed away in 1997.
Jane is survived by her sons, Richard Belcher III (and wife Bonnie Eberhardt) of Stockton, Thomas Richard (and wife Ann Ferroggiaro) of Oakland, and William (and wife Sharon McNew) of San Francisco.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon Robert (and wife Lorna) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Justin Thomas of San Diego, and Taylor McKenzie of Chico; Kelly Jane (and husband Gary Allen) of Manly, Australia, Jennifer Ann (and husband Stuart Maeder) of San Francisco; Jennifer Green of San Francisco, and Alison Green (and husband Drexel Bradshaw) of San Francisco.
Also surviving Jane are her great-grandchildren, Victoria Gabriel Allen of San Francisco; Kaitlin Jane, Riley Virginia, and Sydney Maeve Allen of Manly, Australia; William Wayne, Kenneth Richard, and Jane Ellen Belcher of Hong Kong; Isa Louise and Virginia Jane Maeder of San Francisco; Kenzie Christine Belcher of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; Grey and Madeline Bradshaw of San Francisco.
Mrs. Belcher was a member of the Junior League of Oakland from 1943 to 1952, when she moved to Stockton when her husband joined the law firm currently named Kroloff, Belcher, Smart, Perry and Christopherson.
Jane was a life member of the Dameron Hospital Auxiliary of Stockton and served as president in 1964, receiving the Connie Connolly Award; associate member of Haggin Museum, Children's Home of Stockton Auxiliary, and member of Stockton Golf and Country Club. Mrs. Belcher was an accomplished golfer, having in her career scored two holes-in-one, a double-eagle and won the Women's Championship at Stockton Golf and Country Club in 1967. She was also a fearless world traveler, having traveled (solo) to the Middle East, Saudi Arabia and Europe in the early to mid-1970s, and at the age of 90+ to Fiji and Australia.
