Jane Rosenberg Obituary

Jane Rosenberg
07/25/1947 - 09/24/2025
Jane Lewis Rosenberg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Mill Valley community, passed away on September 24, 2025, at the age of 78.
Jane was born on July 25, 1947, in New York City, the adored daughter of Duffy Lewis and Minna Margulies Lewis. She spent her childhood and formative years in Scarsdale, NY, with her older brother Donald, where she graduated from Scarsdale High School (Class of 1965). Her upbringing there nurtured her intellectual curiosity, creativity, and strong sense of community-qualities that would define her throughout her life.
Jane ventured west to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied Art History and graduated with honors. Her time at Berkeley was transformative, instilling in her a spirit of independence and a deep love for California's cultural vibrancy and natural beauty.
It was at Cal that Jane met the love of her life, Joel Rosenberg. From that moment on, they were inseparable. Over the course of 60 years, they shared a marriage filled with deep love and mutual devotion, with a quirkiness reminiscent of George Burns and Gracie Allen. They were truly two peas in a pod-there was no Jane without Joel, and no Joel without Jane.
Jane was larger than life, a truly outrageous presence. Her boisterous personality, boundless creativity, and joie de vivre made her truly unforgettable. She had a remarkable gift for creating beauty in the world around her, from her lush French garden to her artfully set dinner tables. Through her love of art and design, Jane displayed impeccable taste and a talent for transforming ordinary moments into indelible memories and visual delights.
A consummate hostess, Jane drew people in with her warmth, wit, and radiance. Jane was generous-there was always far too much food on the table, whether for two guests or 20. Her Thanksgiving feasts were large and legendary. There was always a warm welcome for new and old friends alike, and excitement and energy in any room she entered. She collected friends wherever she went. Every new friend became family, and as such was treated with a lifelong love and devotion. Jane was also sharp and a truth teller-she called things as she saw them. She lived life on her own terms: with verve, creativity, grandeur, and joy.
Jane kept her family close. From weekly family dinners to birthday celebrations, she instilled bonds that were unbreakable. She made every individual in her circle feel seen and valued. She always made time for those she loved, imparting wisdom that will live on in the lives of friends and family members alike.
Jane is survived by her loving husband Joel Rosenberg, her adoring daughters Jenny and Dawn, the grandchildren she so cherished, Minna, Harley, Jackie, and Amelia, and sons-in-law Randy and Raj, along with a wide circle of family and friends who adored her.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held in the coming months, where loved ones will gather to share stories and honor her extraordinary life.

"But no matter the medicinal virtues of being a true friend or sustaining a long close relationship with another, the ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the self nor of the other, the ultimate touchstone is witness, the privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the essence of another, to have walked with them and to have believed in them, and sometimes just to have accompanied them for however brief a span, on a journey impossible to accomplish alone."

It has been and honor and a privilege to walk and share my life´s journey with Jane and Joel and the whole clan and it will never end. I will walk with Jane in my heart and soul forever
