Jane Littleton Sullivan Stephens
March 8, 1922 - December 5, 2024
Jane Littleton Sullivan Stephens, a resident of Palo Alto for 67 years, died December 5, 2024, three months shy of her 103rd birthday.
Jane was born on March 8, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to Wilhelmina Littleton and William F. Sullivan. She graduated from Lakewood High School, attended Western Reserve University, Kent State University and graduated from San Jose State University. Jane relocated to San Francisco in 1946, then moved to Palo Alto in 1957. While raising her four children, she was active in Girl Scouts and Sea Scouts and later worked for the Palo Alto Unified School District for 20 years. Jane volunteered with Urban Ministries and the Palo Alto Food Closet. Jane was an active member of the Thomas Merton Center, a spiritual and educational community at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
Jane is survived by her four children; Patricia S. (Ed) Moody, Geoff S. (Gina) Stephens, Timothy D. (Aileen) Stephens, David M. (Teresa) Stephens, her grandchildren; Stephens V. (Nichola Hall) Moody, Thomas R.S. (Juli Tello) Moody, Kelly (Ryan) Brown, Katy (Andy) Walsh, Hanna (Sean Bunyard) Stephens, Erin (Erik) Senteno, and Sean Stephens. She also leaves behind her great-grandson, Enzo Moody and her nephew and nieces, Dana, Caitlin, and Lesa. Jane was honorary grandmother to Clothilde and Victor Labrousse. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Lt. Col. William F. Sullivan Jr., Philip Sullivan, and Mary P. Sullivan O'Driscoll.
A strong, independent woman, we will forever hear her saying "God Help Us" and "pass the chardonnay."
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on February 15, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 751 Waverley Street, Palo Alto, CA 94301, with a reception immediately following at the Thomas House.
