Janine Carrig Obituary

Janine Marie Granucci Carrig

October 22, 1940 - November 3, 2017

Janine Granucci Carrig passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 3, 2017.

Janine was born on October 22, 1940 in Maastricht, Netherlands to Albert and Marie Bekker. Janine and her family came to the United States in 1951 after President Eisenhower invited the family to relocate due to their brave efforts with the Dutch Resistance during World War II. They settled in San Francisco, where Janine attended Holy Name Elementary, graduating from Mercy High School in 1958. After spending a year at Lone Mountain College, Janine went on to finish her bachelors at San Francisco State University, where she met her first husband, Ronald D. Granucci.

Ron and Janine were married in 1963 and had three children. They enjoyed a vibrant and loving family life. Janine taught Reading and English at St. Stephen's Elementary for many years. After Ron's passing, she remained an active member of the parish where she met her second husband, James Carrig. They were married in 1998 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, and were blessed to spend their retirement years together.

Janine immensely enjoyed the arts, travel, cooking, great food, and time spent with her Granucci-Carrig family. We will dearly miss her laughter, terrific sense of style, creativity, singing, boundless affection, compassion and generosity.

Janine is survived by her beloved children, Anne Marie Nangle (Tom), Paul Granucci (Nancy), and Nicole Granucci (Richard Optenyde), by six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen's Church, 451 Eucalyptus, Drive, San Francisco, on Sat. 12/9 at 10:00 am followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research: www.michaeljfox.org.
