I took a classed from her 31 years ago when I first moved to San Jose that I thoroughly enjoyed. I recently moved and found a portrait she gave me 30 years ago.

Dorothy: I was searching for you and came across your dear mother's beautiful obituary. I wish that I had had the gift of knowing her. Perhaps I know her some through you. May your heart rejoice in peace and love knowing your beloved rests. All of my heart forever, Robin

Dear Bushnell Family,
Wow!!! I just dialed her phone number to go visit her and when the number was disconnected, I got worried. I am so sorry she left this world. I always loved her dental appointments with me. I had the pleasure of her company for almost thirty years!!! She was a lovely woman and I will miss her very much!! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Dear Jean:
I will always remember the wonderful memories of our Thursday group china painting class. You showed so much love and patience to everyone.
I will remember the fun trips we took as a group. So many memorable memories - too many to mention.
I was amazed that I had no artist talent and you managed to turn my "windmill" daisy into a beautiful flower.
You were loved by all and will sorely be missed by all.
A loving student and friend, Lucille Giorvas

To the Bushnell family,
Your mother was such a good friend to my mother and I for many many years. My mother, Claire Brown, and Jean were porcelain artists together shared their art with the world. I use the pleasure of meeting many of you and Jean always spoke about all of you to my mother and me. Your mother inspired many people and she will be missed by all. She now paints with the Saints, and angels and is reunited with all her porcelain artists in heaven. My condolences and prayers.

Dear Bushnell Family,
Knowing Jean Bushnell has been one of the highlights of my life. She was a woman that was so full of life, no matter what she did. She was a woman that found interest and wonder in every part of ones day to day life.
I'll never forget Jean's visits to New York and spending time in a garden with her. Or the time my daughter Lynne and I went with Karen and Richard to visit Jean out in California. Jean was an incredible "tour guide". She knew her hometown like the back of her hand. She was an amazing woman!!!
My family and I were devastated to hear of your loss. You are all in our prayers.

How long you were there for all of us. How suddenly you left us to join dad in eternity. It was only two weeks ago we were eating Mexican food and drinking beer. VIA CON DIOS

Dear Bushnell Family,
Aunt Jean was a very special person, and special aunt to all the DeNisi boys. I'll always remember the fun family times we all had. The house in West LA and So. SF where I visited you all in 1958 when returning from overseas. You guys are all very special cousins to us. Now, Mart and Jean are back together.
Love to All.

Grandma Jean- you will always live in our hearts! I will miss your wonderful smell and your grace. I always admired your organization and your ease. Growing up, I appreciated the time you took to mingle with a crazy teenager over hot tea. I LOVE you- Jennifer Jean

Grandma Jean as you so thoughtfully allowed anyone to call you. My family and I were never related to you, but somehow you always made us feel that way. You were always welcoming and kind to my children who for many years came with me to all of your most intimate holidays that are usually left for family members only. My children have fond memories of Christmas Eve and Mother's Day... and many Thanksgivings (appropriately named for how I felt). GMA Jean, you have an extraordinary family led by an amazing person. You have 10 children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who carry on your legacy of grace and strength. You are why family is called family. <3 <3 <3 Thank you and your family for chance to get to know you.

I, like most of you, have a lifetime of memories from Mom. Over these past few days since her passing, my thoughts keep turning to a little ride we took up skyline drive just a couple weeks ago. As we were returning home, she looked out to the clouds coming over the hill and asked " how would you paint those clouds?" .
Everyone in the car had a lesson on the colors of clouds.
I will never look at clouds the same way again.

Jean (Mom)thank you for making me feel like one of your sons. I will miss our wonderful talks and the fun times. I really love the time you blew your kids socks off by announcing you were THE ORIGINAL "OUTLAW" and joined the band of "OUTLAWS" in the Bushnell Clan.
A wonderful miraculous, mother, lady, friend, artist and Mother-in-Law.
Thank you for being you and lending me your daughter, she is a cut off your bolt.
Love you and will miss you but never forget you.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Jean Bushnell who, at the age of 94, died after a mercifully short illness. While I only met sons Mart and Brian briefly (and was impressed by both of them), I knew daughter Dorothy very well. Dorothy was instrumental in my development as a young adult. She taught me lessons both inside and outside the classroom - how to write, how to think critically and, most important, how to turn human potential into real world effectiveness. Of course, no one is imbued with these sorts of gifts in a vacuum. They had to come from somewhere, and in Dorothy's case that somewhere was named Mart and Jean Bushnell. Mart was a fabulous man and Jean, well, she was simply amazing. I met her from time to time on her visits to Merced and was always impressed with her keen intellect. She was overtly kind, generous, thoughtful and so bright! She was obviously devoted to her children, and their children, etc. She showed any who came into contact with her that being a woman, and mother, was a high calling indeed. Even without her considerable success with her porcelain painting, she was a very interesting and successful woman.
To all of her children - late at night when the house is quiet and the days' activity is ended, take a moment and give thanks for having had such a remarkable woman as a mother. I know she was very proud of all of you.

Jean Was a dear person and an amazing artist. She was also an alumna of the same high school I attended, St. Agnes. She was always warm and generous to me and I treasure the beautiful porcelain pieces I have from her. Everyone who comes to the house in Eastport, Maine admires the gorgeous tiles she painted for the home. Of course her greatest gift to us all is her wonderful children especially my dear friend Dorothy. With love and prayers, Mary

Mom. YOU WERE A WONDER: how you managed us ten children; inspired us to be our own persons; encouraged us to develop our own talents; told us that women could do great things, too; encouraged us to follow and develop our own talents; loved what all ten of us were doing with our lives; loved the way that we built our families and circle of friends. You were always praising us and urging us forward. We will keep alive the the positive, active, devoted energies you installed in us. Oh, how lucky, how gifted, how fortunate to have had such a mother and friend. God, thank you for the gift of being born to Jean Bushnell. DJ
