Jim Scully Obituary
March 26, 1929 - March 12, 2022
Peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born in Rosdillig, County Carlow, Ireland, Jim left home at 15, learned his trade as a carpenter, then went to London working on postwar reconstruction. In 1954 he immigrated to White Plains, NY. There, he married Bridie McLoughlin from County Longford and raised four children as active parishioners at St. John the Evangelist. With Bridie by his side they launched Scully Construction, a general contracting company in 1972 which is now run by their son, Jim Jr. and celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Jim was an outstanding Gaelic footballer, gaining accolades on the Carlow Junior team, the Garryowen Football Club in London, and the Sligo football club at Gaelic Park, NY.
After retiring from Gaelic football, Jim turned his passion to golf. He never did anything if he couldn't do it well. Together with his sons, Jim and Kevin, they played many of the famous golf courses in the U.S. and Ireland over the years.
After Bridie's death, Jim moved to Florida for sunshine and golf. While in Florida, he was married for a short time to Diane Walde Scully.
For the past four years, he lived with his daughter, Maureen and her family. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings John, Bernard and Mary, and his wife, Bridie. He is survived by his children, Kevin (Hope) of White Plains, Maureen McFadden (Jim) of San Francisco, Jim, Jr. of White Plains, and Eileen Vita (Jeff) of Wallingford, CT., as well as seven grandchildren Grace, Caroline and James McFadden, Lauren and Curtice Scully, and Sarah and Katie Vita; and his former wife Diane Walde Scully; and many nieces and nephews in the US, Ireland and England.
Jim was laid to rest alongside his wife, Bridie on March 22, 2022 at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, New York.
The family would like to thank his devoted and patient caregivers Perla, Catherine, Venni, Ruby and Vee. Donations in his honor can be made to Archbishop Stepinac High School or the San Francisco Irish Immigration Pastoral Center.
