Joan Cecilia Anderson passed away peacefully in her sleep during the morning of December 15, 2025.
She was the daughter of Regina M. Herron (Otten) and William Q. Herron. Joan was born in Oakland on September 27,1935 & moved to San Francisco at the age of 4 where she spent the rest of her life. She grew up in the Richmond district of San Francisco and loved spending time in Golden Gate Park. The Presentation nuns were a large part of her life as she attended St Monica's grammar school and Presentation High School.
She married Herbert Anderson and they were wed at her family parish, St Monica's. They were married for 57 years. Together they had 3 children and lived in the Portola District of San Francisco.
She went back to work once the kids were in High School working for banks in their accounting departments and finished her career working for See's candies in South City.
She enjoyed taking cruises later in life & playing games of chance in which she was quite successful. Her biggest enjoyment, however, was her family, friends and various cats.
The family would also like to thank the great care she received from the staff at Westborough Royale.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herbert, sister Patricia Frey, and brother William Herron. She is survived by her children: Herbert (Sandie), Kevin (Valerie) and Regina; her two Grand kids, Amanda & Paige; her three great grand kids, Hildegarde, Anders & Edward; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Rosary at St. Monica Church, 470 24th Avenue in San Francisco on Tuesday, December 30th at 10am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Herb at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.
