Joanne Knowles Obituary

KNOWLES, Joanne - Resident of Alameda, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at age 74. A lifelong educator, Ms. Knowles spent the majority of her career in the San Lorenzo Unified School District. She began as a teacher at Arroyo High School, became dean of girls in 1966 and assistant principal in 1975. In 1982 she was named principal of San Lorenzo High and served there until her retirement in 1989. Joanne enjoyed reading, traveling and golf. A Memorial Service will be held Thurs., Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m., in the San Lorenzo High School gym. Memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA, the American Cancer Society, or the San Lorenzo Scholarship Foundation.

Ms. Knowles was our dean when I attended Arroyo High in 1978, she was one of the most respected, she was always fair. You feared her and loved her all at the same time. She will be remembered always.
