Joeph Acker Obituary

Joeph Acker
August 2, 1949 - December 7, 2021
Joseph Royal Acker was born in Oakdale, CA on August 2, 1949. Joe passed on December 7, 2021, after a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Joe was the youngest of three children. He looked up to, and honored, his parents Elwyn and Frances. He loved growing up in Oakdale; his extended family and friends meant the world to him. Throughout his schooling Joe excelled athletically, playing golf, football, basketball, and track. He became Oakdale High School's star quarterback leading the team to its first ever undefeated season. His stellar performance earned him an academic and athletic scholarship at UC Berkeley. He played football throughout his tenure at CAL. While there, Joe developed deep and abiding friendships, which exist to this day. His favorite weekend activity was watching the Golden Bears play football with his teammates and friends in Memorial Stadium.
After obtaining his degree from CAL, Joe worked several years in sales and the hospitality industry. He eventually found his calling as a Mortgage Broker and was known for his integrity, he retired in 2015. (Perhaps he was inspired to enter the industry, due to his love of the movie "It's A Wonderful Life").
In the mid 1980's, Joe became interested in acting and voice over. After numerous coaches he became a member of SAG/AFTRA. He did print work, voice over and acted in commercials and movies. His last audition was in 2021, where he actually sang his part!
Joe was an avid golfer his entire life. He was a member of Sequoyah Country Club since 1982, participating in numerous tournaments. He also taught his wife, step-son and grandchildren to play! His golfing community became another source of lifelong friendships.
Joe was a true renaissance man, and was predeceased by his parents Elwyn and Frances Acker, his brother-in-law Pat Maudsley and nephew Tim Maudsley.
Love ones that will miss Joe are his wife Sandy Acker of 34 years, his stepson Tyler, daughter-in-law Tara and grandchildren Lucy and Theo Stoop. Also his sister Keady Maudsley, niece Megan Keough and family, his brother Gary Acker, sister-in-law Peggy, nephews Joel, Jeremy Acker and families, niece Stephanie Schofield and family. In addition Joe will be missed by of his many friends from Oakdale, CAL and the Bay Area.

Such a huge loss for those who knew and loved Joe - I have great memories of tossing the football around with Joe and my brother Kevin when they were roommates on Tenth Ave in the City. He always had great football stories from Cal - a true Cal Bear...

I am deeply sorry to hear of Joe´s passing.
Joe was a wonderful, compassionate and understanding man with a great sense of humor and wonderful laugh.
I had the honor and pleasure of living with Joe and his relative Joe Rydberg on 10th Avenue in SF in the early to mid - eighties.
Great times!
May God always keep Joe in the hollow of his loving palms and bring peace to all of us who dearly loved Joe.

Sad news indeed! I have wonderful memories of Joe when he lived for a time at 1453 10th Avenue, the home of his cousin, Joe Rydberg. Lots of laughter and wicked bloody Marys on the front porch on Sunday mornings. What a dapper gentleman with a stunning sense of humor. My condolences to all his nearest and dearest in life. Joe was a very good man!
