John Gilbert Alvergue
August 9, 1937 - August 7, 2021
John passed away peacefully at his home in Lincoln, CA at the age of 83. John was born and raised in San Francisco and was a lifelong SF Giants and 49ers fan. He went to St. Vincent's School for Boys as a young child, and later attended Washington High School. John was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1955 until 1961. During this time he met the love of his life and future wife, Patricia Koenig. John was an avid golfer and a member of Green Hills Country Club. He and Pat enjoyed many years playing in golf tournaments and taking golf vacations. When John and Pat retired they moved to the golf community Rancho Murieta. In 1964 John opened his first delicatessen at Skycrest Shopping Ctr in San Bruno and later opened a second deli in Diamond Heights in San Francisco. He eventually had John's Delis' inside 3 Petrini's supermarkets. John enjoyed many breakfasts at Nick's Rockaway in Pacifica, and celebrating every family occasion at Joe's of Westlake in Daly City. He was the most positive man you could meet, would always greet you with a smile and laughter, and had a huge heart. John leaves behind Judy Craig, the second love of his life. He is survived by his son John (Mary) and daughter Joan Grech (Paul); grandchildren, Tara de Borja (Ian), James and Bridget Alvergue, Jennifer and Jessica Grech, and great-granddaughter Isla Alvergue de Borja. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Rich (Joanne) Koenig and Tom (Joyce) Koenig, and nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, mother, Margaret Cabezas, granddaughter, Jamie Grech, siblings, George Alvergue and Alicia Fenili, and sister-in-law Florence Alvergue.

So many people John touched in his wonderful life, we were very lucky to be a part of. My mom and dad, Bill and Linda, followed the Deli life because of John and Pat and I am still doing it! All of the Alvergues are such kind, loving and caring people and you know there are always smiles and laughter around them! John, you will be missed deeply.....

John, Joan, the entire Alvergue family and Judy. We are sorry to read of your fathers passing and express our sincere condolences.
John was one of a kind an outstanding man and friend to all. John always greeted one with his genuine smile, happy attitude with a gift to amuse you with laughter.
Enjoyed many rounds of golf with John and Pat. Especially at the Alisal Ranch golf tournaments but most of all stopping by the Deli for a good laugh. He always new my order Albacore Tuna. No one knew the Deli business better than John.
We will always have special memories of John. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult Time
