John Boss Obituary
February 28, 1944 - September 28, 2023
John was born and raised in Vallejo, CA. He attended St. Vincent Ferrer Elementary and High School, class of 1962. He received a BA from San Francisco State in 1967 and a PhD (Parasitology) from UC Berkeley in 1977.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Patricia Marihugh Boss. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hollister (Holly Smith) Boss of Berkeley, son Alexander Boss (Sofia MacKinnon) of Beaverton, Oregon, daughter Elizabeth Boss (Thomas Fong) of Walnut Creek, son Nicholas Boss of Berkeley, and adored granddaughters Natalie and Addison Fong of Walnut Creek. He also leaves behind sisters, Kathryn Hudgins (George) of Vallejo, and Sister Patricia Boss, O.P., of San Rafael and San Francisco, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
From 1970 until his retirement in 2012, John taught medical science classes at many Bay Area colleges and universities, including Life Chiropractic College West, where he was a faculty member for 25 years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 11:00 am,
at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2005 Berryman St., Berkeley, 94709.

Dr. Boss was my instructor for two classes at LCCW. He was a great instructor who made you think and challenged your presumptions, especially as a Chiropractor-to-be in a society attuned to drugs, radiation and surgery. He was almost jovial and witty and I feel his positive influence still in my approach to healthcare! Godspeed John!
