There are precious few people one is lucky enough to have met in life. Jack was one. You knew, 5 minutes after meeting him, you had a friend for life. And so it was for hear his jokes and stories, to be in the orbit of his endearing "tough guy" personna, to know that if I ever needed a shoulder his was there...these are unforgettable memories. This photo of him - SO Jack! A true GIANT of a man's man and a gentle sweetheart as well. Always respectful, kind, thoughtful and always funny. Gina, I only wish I knew the words to comfort you and the family. I loved hearing him tell stories his family and "The Little Flower." I know I'll be fondly telling Jack stories for the rest of my life. I miss him already. He may be gone from the physical world, but he will never leave our hearts. May his memories bring you both peace and miles of smiles. Save a place for us all up there Jack! Sincerely, Nancy Biagini

Jack Dempsey was a union mans Union Man and a true Brother. Jack was the kind of CWA member that our union was built upon and why it was great. He was a Member, Shop Steward, Executive Board Member and was Union to the core. I first met Jack when I was an officer in the Hayward Local but it was later, when I was assigned to be the International Staff Representative for the San Francisco Local, that I really got to know Jack well and to work with him. I count him as a friend and I will miss him very much. May you Rest in Peace my brother, for you are one who has truly “paid your dues”.

My deepest condolences to the Dempsey Family. He will be sorely missed. I just saw you Jack at Most Holy Redeemer just a few months ago, still the same ol' Jack. A story to tell, a joke to tell, then spitewy then on his merry way.

Gina & Family,

We are sorry to hear about the passing of "Demps". A great guy and a great friend. With his passing we know this to be true:
1) Whenever I hear "Woody Woodpecker" I will always think of Demps.
2) The area around all "B-boxes" will now be cleaner and a safer place to walk.
3) Soon there will be a clean, clear, direct line from here to heaven and if it isn't, Demps will "flip" it!

Here are some notes from his "extended family" from PT&T, Pacific Bell, SBC, AT&T and whatever ...

Our old friend Jack passed away on 11/23/12.
Here is the link to the obituary, should have sent with the last e-mail

We on the linecrew smiled everytime we bumped into The Demps. And we smiled often because … there was no place in San Francisco where you didn't bump into Jack! He was a true Telco Classic.

I will cherish forever all the fun and unforgettable times I spent with Uncle Jack. He tried to convince me to buy Ben Davis clothes, try his alcohol soaked cherries, go for a run to his favorite watering holes and share over and over again the stories of times spent with my parents Komong & Aging and my brother King. May you rest in peace and enjoy the bottomless beer and vodka in heaven with all your friends and loved ones that have gone ahead of you..

Gina I have many great memories of Jack working in China Town I always had to be careful where I put my hands going up on the roofs because if Jack had been there ahead of me He being onery would continually leave his chaw where you would have to put your hands. He was really an interesting man to work with.

Jack is remembered by many for his three wheeled motor cycle, his Ben Davis Shirt and the large Steward Button he wore on it. He was a union man through and through. We will miss his humor, his quick wit and his gift of Gab.

I offer this line from a poem written in 1946 or around that time. I found it in a newspaper from the American Union of Telephone Workers a union before CWA.

“The Stewards Story”
“The steward passes beyond the vale.
As all pass the bad and good,
Where even Bosses stand the test.
As the fire is wont to test the wood.
I think a voice shall whisper then
Fear not for all with you is well:
Come enter into the brotherhood,
You've had enough of Hell.”
