John Faraone Obituary

Dr. John Faraone, O.D.
November 4, 1928 - September 20, 2022
Dr. John Amedeo Faraone, O.D.
John was a man of great strength and integrity who made a full life for himself. Born in Rochester, New York to an Italian immigrant family during the depression, he worked in his youth to support his family, later joined the Marine Corp, which brought him to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he and his bride, Barbara, settled to raise their family. John attended the University of California School of Optometry, earning a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1958. He held a successful private practice in Westborough, well respected and adored by his patients.
John was so proud when he and Barbara purchased their dream home in Emerald Hills, where they loved to entertain their dear friends and family, notably for the memorable Halloween parties. John was an exceptional host, bar tender and chef, who could cook up large pots of pasta sauce for community events. A devoted husband and caretaker to his treasured wife of 51 years, Barbara. A loving father who raised his children with discipline, yet was very nurturing, instilling in them the character to live life fully. An imaginative bedtime storyteller and creator of joyful games to play with his beloved grandchildren. An avid animal lover who adored his German Shepherds, Thor and Storm. A genuinely good, kind man who was full of love and warmth.
John's death came two days prior to his 71st wedding anniversary, after enduring too many days of the indignities of aging, a true hero. May he rest in peace, free from all suffering. Survived by his children Stephen Faraone, Lisa Faraone, Victoria Faraone Crawford, grandchildren Sage and Sierra Crawford, sisters Edith Bell and Janet Hargarther, numerous relatives and friends. Preceded in death by wife Barbara, brother Dominic Faraone, sisters Mary Purcio and Josephine Chiavaroli.
The family is immensely grateful to the kind, gentle care of the wonderful VA Palo Alto hospice staff during John's last days.
A very private person, he requested no memorial service, the family will hold a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in John's honor to the Department of Veterans Affairs, American Lung Association, an animal rescue or charity of your choice.

Dear Lisa, Vicki, and Steve.

Brother and Uncle John, was a special man, always so kind and enjoyable to be around. Fondly remember John and Barbara's visits back to Rochester, and our visits to San Francisco and such great hosts they were and so much fun to be with.

Prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
