John Heinbockel Obituary

John Heinbockel
07/22/1945 - 01/07/2025
John Richard Heinbockel of Burlingame died peacefully at Palo Alto Commons Assisted Living and Memory Care facility on January 7. John was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Norma Heinbockel, as well as his sisters, Bonnie Lopez and Cheryl Frank. He is survived by his wife Madeline Heinbockel (nee Granara), brother Ken Heinbockel, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Born in San Francisco, John grew up in Menlo Park and Redwood City. After high school he enrolled at the College of San Mateo, where he met his future wife Madeline. Following service in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, John continued his education at SF State, earning a B.A. and an M.A. in English. At State, he also began his college teaching career that lasted over 35 years, mostly at Menlo College as Associate Professor of English and at the College of San Mateo.
He will be remembered for his devotion to his wife of fifty-five years, his great friendships, passion for classic sports cars, unique wit and humor, and love of travel in France and Italy.
John's resting place will be The Italian Cemetery in Colma, where someday his wife Madeline will join him.

I will certainly miss Uncle John. I love all the memories and laughs he provided me. So fun to be around and such a passion for life and travel and deep love for Madeline. In recent years we exchanged letters and I´m so very glad I now have these precious letters to keep and re-read and smile. I know he is in good company up above with my Mom and Aunt Bonnie and other friends and family who were waiting for him. Love you Uncle.
