John "Johnny" Jurs

John "Johnny" Jurs Of Burlingame, at rest, April 2, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jurs. A native of SF, age 87. Mr. Jurs grew up in San Francisco and started his boxing career as an amateur for the Catholic Youth Organization for four years. At the age of 22, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. When he was discharged, he started boxing again and boxed as a professional for three years. After retiring from boxing he drove a taxicab for 25 years in the Bay Area. He has no surviving family other than a godson, Jerry Michael Buckley and other members of the Buckley family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thurs, April 6, 2006, 7pm, St. Dunstan's Church in Millbrae. Private Interment.
