I have been wondering if Mike, his son, saw my first message about his father. It would be great if he got my message and we could re-connect at least via email. Again, my email address is: [email protected].

Dear Mike,
I'm an old friend from college at USF and saw your father's obituary in the SF Chronicle. We visited your family home together back in 1966-67 but I never met your Dad. Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your Dad. I lost mine in 2005. I'm retired now and my wife and I live in Napa, CA. It would be great to hear from you sometime.

I thought that Mr. Monaghan had figured out how to live forever. How disappointing to learn that he was human, after all. As a friend of his children and member of the parish, I viewed him from the awestruck point of view of a child. He seemed extraordinarily kind, patient, and a solid provider to his ever expanding family. I ache for the pain of his family, the loss we are all feeling, and I am grateful, so very grateful to have known him.
