John Potter Obituary
POTTER, John D. - September 1, 1914 - August 6, 2005 It took him nearly 91 years, but Jack Potter has finally arrived for his well-earned tee time in The Great Beyond. While on earth, golf was one of his many passions, shared with friends, family and a long line of strangers who would unfailingly become his good friends by the end of the round - although a bit lighter in the wallets on most occasions. Jack was lovingly raised in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska by his parents, Herbert and Blanche. Jack often told his friends, always with tears in his eyes, that the defining moment of his young life was when his father offered to send him to the Harvard Business School and in 1938 Jack received his distinguished MBA. As treasurer for United State Steel Corporation in San Francisco, Jack helped launch the careers of some of our country's leading businessmen. In 1955, he founded The Financial Officers Of Northern California and in 1984, The Peninsula Round Table - both monthly discussion groups for business and community leaders which continue to this day. Members of the Peninsula Golf & Country Club will surely miss Jack's wonderfully good nature, steady leadership and welcoming smile. As a past president in 1962, his photo hangs prominently in the club's Hall of Fame, which no visitor has missed seeing in 43 years because Jack was always on hand to point it out. If Jack were writing this obit himself, he would passionately want to say that his life has been the enlightened and enchanting experience it was because he was allowed to share it each day with Nina, his best friend and wife. Together, they traveled the world and together they conquered it. Preceding Jack, are his first wife, Imogen; his son, John; and his brother, Bill. Jack is also survived by his brother, Bob; his daughter-in-law, Joan Dinsmore and her husband, Don; his grandkids, Kimberly and Jack; and his son, Steve. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 10th 4:00PM at The Peninsula Golf & Country Club, 701 Madera Dr., San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to The American Cancer Society.
