After a long fight with a very aggressive cancer, and complications from treatment, John passed away surrounded by his wife and children on March 3, 2024.
John was born on August 13, 1942, in Val-D'or, Quebec. His family moved to Toronto in 1954. He attended Bishop's College School, where he was head prefect. He graduated from Princeton in 1964, and married the former Barbara Zieman, with whom he had three children, Peter (Lisa), J.Scott(Kate), and Julia (Gavin Buckley). The marriage later ended in divorce.
John attended McGill University Medical School, graduating in 1968. After an internship in Toronto, he opened a family practice. In 1975, he changed course, and began an anesthesia residency in Calgary, Alberta. He completed his residency at Stanford, and was hired by the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in 1977, he was a partner at PAMF until he retired in 1998. He was very active in Interplast, and served on the Medical Board of Stanford Hospital.
In 1988, he married Kathy Smith a nurse he knew from Stanford and Palo Alto Surgecenter. After John retired, they moved to Angels Camp, CA, where he enjoyed golf, hiking, kayaking, fishing, skiing and in the fall, duck hunting. John also loved the long sailing trips he took with good friends. He relished the many classes he took at Columbia College in Columbia, CA.
John was a well-loved man who always answered the call to help others.
In addition to his wife and children, John is survived by his brother, Jim,(Bobbi), of St. John's Newfoundland, seven grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews, and his cherished in-laws.
At John's request, no memorial services were held.

Uncle John was one of my favorite people. He was always genuinely interested in what I was learning in school. I´ll always remember that he would read my summer reading book, often before I finished it, so we could talk about it. So many wonderful memories. I will miss him so much.

John was an amazing brother in law who I loved dearly. Enjoyed our vacations together and what an amazing Uncle he was to my daughter. We will miss him so very much but he will never ever be forgotten
