John Skovgaard Obituary

John Robert Skovgaard John Robert Skovgaard, AKA, Nonno, Uncle Bobby, and the former official Soccer Czar of Millbrae, where he exuberantly served as coach, referee and commissioner for 12 years, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2006. He is survived by the love of his life and bride of nearly 40 years, Donna Jean Skovgaard; loving daughter, Kristin Lynn Nieves; loving son-in-law, Craig Nieves and adored grandchildren, Gracie Abigail and Brady Robert Nieves. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Robert Skovgaard. He is also survived by a loving extended family including mother-in-law, Gracie Aragona; brother-in-law, Bill Aragona; niece, Stephani and husband, Michael McGarry; great niece and nephew, Paige and Declan McGarry; uncle, Albert Sunseri; a brother, William Skovgaard and sisters, Eleanor White and Carol Cantaloube and family members Jack and Jean Dempsey, Nancy Dempsey, John Dempsey and Yoko Asumi, their children Jack and Carol, Steve and Georgia Dempsey and their children Gina and Angelina. Bob was born in Burlingame, CA, on April 3, 1943 to parents Greta and Erik Skovgaard. Bob spoke often of his wonderful childhood memories. After high school he proudly served in the US Navy. At that time he developed an interest in accounting. After graduating from the University of San Francisco with a degree in accounting, Bob became a highly successful certified public accountant with the firm of Donner Accounting, where he became a partner and eventually sole owner. His wife Donna and daughter Kristin worked with him as important parts of the business. Over the years he was a tenacious advocate for hundreds of clients and was well respected in his field. Bob will be most remembered as a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. Although a proud Dane by heritage, he adapted well to the boisterous and fun loving Italian life style fostered by Donna. A family man first, Bob was patient and kind, but most of all he was caring, compassionate and unselfish with everyone fortunate enough to know him. Bob was also known as a loyal 49er fan and our family's beloved Inspector Clouseau. A Rosary Service with Visitation is scheduled for Thurs, June 22 at 7:30pm at Crosby-N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home, 2 Park Rd, Burlingame. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 23, 10:30am at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 1310 Bayswater Ave, Burlingame. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any non-profit organization benefiting youth or the needs of children.

Donna & family~

We will truly miss Bob's upbeat style. Gar and I looked forward every year to seeing him (and you, too) for our taxes. It was a planned night out for us, and we always discussed with him where we were to go eat afterward. He was such a happy soul. The world was a better place because of him and he will be missed by our entire family. We'll see you next year. Our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Dear Donna,

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Not only was he a great person, but an honest and respected Accountant. When we moved from the Bay Area in 1996, we never dreamed of changing Accountants. He was always there for us no matter what. We will never forget Bob's smile and upbeat attitude. He was the Best! May God's love strengthen you during this time of sorrow.

Donna,

I will forever miss Bob's laugh, smile, sense of humor and caring/compassionate personality. I loved him very much and had tremendous respect for him as being a good man, father and friend. I never told him in-person, but he personally was an inspiration to me. I admired him a lot and I can only hope to be 1/2 the person that Bob was to his family and many friends.

Love,

Stefan
