John Wagstaff Obituary

John Edmond Wagstaff, born in San Francisco, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, surrounded by family.
A third-generation San Franciscan, John was a lifelong Bay Area resident, living in San Francisco, Sleepy Hollow, and Berkeley.
He built a successful career in urban planning, founding his firm, Wagstaff & Associates, and working with cities and communities across California to promote responsible regional growth.
John loved the Bay Area-its culture, music, landscapes, and especially its sports teams. He was a devoted fan of the Giants, Warriors, 49ers, and Oregon Ducks. He also loved traveling with his wife, Lynda, often joined by close friends, and was rarely without a camera, capturing the people and places he cherished.
He is survived by his son, Jim (Lindsay); grandchildren Xander and Ivadel; brothers Kenneth (Diane), Alex, and Tom; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda, and brother, Bruce (Alyson).
John will be remembered for his kindness, humor, curiosity, and devotion to family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

I had the good fortunate to know John and Lynda in graduate school at the University of Oregon/Graduate School of Design. Those times are still memorable.

I also met and knew John from a men's group for several years who was always a source of great wisdom, compassion and support. I will cherish the many memories of him and what he shared about his wonderful life. We were lucky to go through life with him.
