Joseph Alcedo Obituary

Dr. Joseph Juan Alcedo Jr.

Juan Alcedo died peacefully on February 17th at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. He was 93 years old. Juan is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and their daughter, Elena; his children from his marriage to Katherine Alcedo: Michael, Thomas (Susan), Anne (Jack) and Barbara as well as his grandchildren Jason, Joel, Nick and Eddie. He is also survived by his sister, Esther, of San Antonio, and many nieces and nephews.
At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Navy and had a distinguished career of 42 years in military service. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. During and after his Navy career he earned college degrees from University of Chicago, Lone Mountain College and a PhD in clinical psychology from Saybrook Institute.
After the military Juan taught at San Francisco and Oakland colleges, worked as a licensed psychologist and was active in many volunteer projects.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mill Valley on Monday, February 26th at 10:30 a.m. Juan will be buried in the Dixon National Military Cemetery in at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Club of San Rafael.

Juan was dear friend and a great volunteer for the San Rafael RotaCare clinic I enjoyed driving him home and his work with the patient was wonderful. He was a great psychologist and helped many people. My prayers are with you Beth and all his family.

The Rotary program that sponsors us is Marin Sunrise Rotary. It was an honor to work with him. I will miss him. Blanche
