Joseph Cherney

Joseph Mercer Cherney Died peacefully at his home in San Francisco on January 18, 2010 surrounded by his loving family and his beloved dogs Handsome and Missy. Joe was born in San Francisco on January 4, 1948 to the late Guy and Dora Jane Cherney and was the first grandson of the famous San Francisco trial attorney, Jake Ehrlich. Joe attended Grant School, George Washington High School, and Foothill College. Joe learned the family business under his uncle Jack Cherney and managed Riviera Beauty Supply for many years prior to owning his own store, Beautiful Supply in the Noe Valley district of SF. Joe also worked for over 25 years as an executive chauffer for numerous limousine companies and was well know thruout San Francisco. He also was an avid collector of coins and stamps, was outgoing and gregarious and enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days of San Francisco. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during Vietnam and traveled extensively during that time. Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years Christa Cherney; sons Adam and Erik Cherney; granddaughter Meagan Alexis Cherney; younger brother David Cherney; sister-in-law Nancy Cherney; niece Liza Cherney, cousins Eden Cherney, Jake Ehrlich III, Todd Ehrlich and Cynthia Ehrlich Hughes. He is also survived by many friends in San Francisco who will forever miss his beautiful and heartwarming smile. No formal services will be held and any contributions in Joe''s memory may be sent to the Cherney family at 1515 - 17th Ave., SF, CA 94122.
