I did not know Joe, but through the stories of a friend, feel like I did. Obviously a great great man who was impactful to family, friends and the community at large. Rest well sir. I wish I had met you. The world is a better place because of you.

In the short time I knew Joe, he was always kind and patient, with a passion to share stories about his World War 2 collection. The community is incredibly fortunate for his pioneering efforts. He was a unique soul who will be truly missed. My deepest condolences and prayers to his family.

This is a sad loss. I had such a great 37years of working at marin sanitary. Not a day would go by that Mr. G didn't offer an affectionate hello or a wave. Never short to impart knowledge when asked. I owe him and family members for the training I needed to succeed. I still miss the good days when I would work right along side Mr G and all the bosses. My condolences to all the family members I have had the privilege to know of the passing of Mr Garbarino aka Junior.

Family and Friends of "Joseph Garbarino" I don't know him but felt moved to read his obituary. What a beautiful role model for the rest of us, it really touched my heart, I mean it really touched my heart. He lived a life of purpose and unselfishness, with gusto. I thank God for his life and other people like Mr. Garbarino . . .

I loved Joe and worked very hard with him and went fishing with him. Patti and Susie I worked down at the recyclingcenter with with you too. Also, my condolences to you at your other sisters. Joe was a wonderful guy and he never stopped working hard and my father Aldino went way back with him to the 50s when they packed garbage together in San Francisco. I had many laughs with Joe! Good bye. A good long life lived well .

Dear Patty and family,
It was with sadness that I learned of your father's death. Please accept my condolences.
My most important memories of Joe Garbarino, are of his incredible support (and also of yours, Patty), both materially and otherwise in the remaking of the Pickleweed Community Center, now appropriately renamed the Albert J. Boro Community Center. As chair of the Pickleweed Advisory Board during the process, I saw what defined true community support and action by observing his willingness to do whatever he could to help. That support was essential to the success of the project. Even though I am now living in Point Richmond as a result of being displaced after a fire 2 years ago at my long time home in the Canal Neighborhood, I will always look to that project as a highpoint of community achievement. I hope it continue to serve the residents of that neighborhood for years to come. I will always think of Joe when I think of that community center. I often bumped into Joe at United Market at which time I always received a warm greeting and generous smile. Nothing better than that to brighten ones day.
I also grew up on a "waste not, want not," family environment for which I am grateful. Washing and reusing those Ziplok bags is not just economical but is one of the small everyday means of diverting plastic from our landfills. It won't save us alone, but every little bit does count.
Humanity has lost one of its great men with Joe's passing. He took caring for the earth and its people to heart. I think his influence will last and lead to even more solutions to longstanding problems.
Let us never forget the lessons he taught with his words and actions.
