Joseph Richard Poulin passed away peacefully on Thursday Nov 6, 2025, in San Carlos, California at the age of 93.
Richard was born on October 15, 1932, in Waterville, Maine to the late Cyrille and Aglaee Poulin. He graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees in philosophy and theology from the University of Montreal. After finishing his education in Montreal, he returned to Maine where he served as a local parish priest in Auburn. Later in life, he furthered his education by earning master's degrees from Suffolk University, Boston University, and the University of Oklahoma.
Richard proudly served his country as a Captain in the Army from 1969-1973. During his time in the military, he served in the Vietnam War where he earned a bronze star.
On March 2, 1974, he married his beloved wife Joanne Poulin (nee Longchamps) to whom he was married for 47 years before she passed away in November 2021. They settled outside of Boston, Massachusetts and remained there until June 2021. Richard spent the rest of his career working for the federal government as a property manager and urban planner, eventually retiring in 1997 after 20 years of service.
Richard was a devout Catholic that never missed Sunday mass. He enjoyed traveling. Anytime he and Joanne had a chance, they would go explore new places.
He loved to ski and be outside, continuing to ski with Joanne in the White Mountains of New Hampshire until he was in his early 80's.
Richard is survived by his daughter Stephanie Poulin and her husband Geoff Bemiss of Washington, North Carolina, daughter Danielle Poulin Porter and her husband Daniel Porter, and granddaughters Madeleine and Mirabelle Porter of Burlingame, California as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Joanne, Richard was predeceased by his brothers: Norman Poulin, Cyrille Poulin Jr., and Raymond Poulin, and sisters: Leone Wood (nee Poulin) and Yvette Vigue (nee Poulin).
