Joseph E. Vaez
March 27, 1941 - November 17, 2020
Joseph "Joe" E. Vaez, age 79, passed away November 17, 2020 in San Mateo County, CA. Joe was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Maria Teresa Martinez and Eusebio Vaez. Joe was the youngest of five children. He was predeceased by his brother Armando and sisters Irma, Teresa, and Pilar. Joe is survived by his five sons, Michael (wife Darci), John, Joseph, Casey, and Sean, and grandsons Ryder and Joey.
Joe was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1941 and moved to San Francisco alongside his mother, Maria Teresa at the age of twelve. They lived with his sister Irmaand beloved brother-in-law Eddie Sanchez in the Mission District. He went to St. Peter's Parish School and on to Jefferson High School. Joe went to college at San Francisco State and proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corp.
Joe worked at Crocker Bank as an auditor then became a Bank Examiner working for the U.S. Treasury. While working for the U.S Treasury's Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), he lived in London and Washington D.C. before relocating back to San Francisco. Joe also worked on assignment with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in South America.
After Joe retired from the OCC he worked at Bank of America in San Francisco as Group Executive Vice President. Before fully retiring, Joe continued to work as a consultant which took him to Japan, Dubai and Honolulu.
Throughout Joe's life, he was active in playing tennis and golf, which brought him great joy and fostered wonderful friendships.
Joe loved to travel throughout his life. While stationed in London, he visited most of Europe and India. During retirement, he continued to travel with his friends and family. He enjoyed going to Europe, Bruno's Aires and other cities in South America such as Machu Picchu and would often travel to Chihuahua to visit family. Joe looked forward to going to Cabo San Lucas annually with his sons and family.
Joe was blessed with a loving family and wonderful and supportive friends; he will be greatly missed by all.
