Mary and Family, We are so sorry for your loss. Joe was a very kind and generous man and the best hardwood floor guy ever!

My condolences to Joe's Family and Friends. My name is Rick Solis and am a Hardwood Floor Layer by trade. I met Joe at a Union meeting about 10 or so years ago and was immediately in awe of the respect that automatically swept his way from all who new him. I was introduced to him and started to put together in my mind all of the stories I've heard over the years about this absolute craftsman of our trade, and thought to myself, "this is the guy!" Over the years I would see him at meetings and our golf tournaments and had the pleasure of playing with him once. I felt we shared this mutual respect and understanding that we recognized without words being said. I always was so flattered that he always remembered my name and gave me a firm handshake and a hug every time I'd see him. I felt so terrible when first I heard of his passing, and felt worse with every day that passed that I wasn't in time for the service. This world has lost a truly genuine and good soul, but his memory will live with me always. I consider one of the greatest compliments ever given to me in my life is a story that my ex-boss at Stuart Floor Company told me. Back in 1996, when I was still an Apprentice Floor Layer, he asked one of the more established Journeyman on the crew, "How is Rick doing?" His response was, "you better keep that kid, he's the next Joe Vella". That is an absolutely true story. Rest in Peace Joe!
