Joyce Seaton Obituary
Joyce F. Seaton of Tiburon, California passed away peacefully on March 9th, 2024 with her son, Fred Barbaria, and her daughters-in-law, Cheryl Barbaria and Wendy Barbaria, at her side. Joyce lived a full 98 years, celebrating her birthday shortly before her passing.
Joyce was born in February, 1926 in Sacramento, California and kept close ties with her friends there. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her late husband, W.B. "Bruce" Seaton and her son Richard Barbaria. She is survived by Richard's wife, Wendy, her sons Fred Barbaria (Cheryl) of Goleta, California and Greg Barbaria of Alsea, Oregon as well as grandchildren Ryan Barbaria, Anne Bandle, Michael, Jason and Anthony Barbaria, Greg (Jr.), Michelle and Christopher Barbaria, great grandchildren Clare and Alexa Bandle, Weston Barbaria, Josiah Macken, Leo and Maison Campos, and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was an adventurer – she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1965 with her three sons and worked in administration for the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. She moved back to the mainland in 1969 and went to work at American President Lines in San Francisco, where she met her late husband, Bruce Seaton. They married on Hawaii Island in October of 1974 and lived in Belvedere and then Tiburon for a total of 50 years.
Joyce and Bruce traveled extensively both for Bruce's work and on vacations. Their destinations included Europe, the Middel East, Hong Kong, China, Tahiti, and Singapore.
Some of the best family memories are holidays with Joyce and Bruce at their homes in Belvedere and Tiburon. She loved gardening, both indoors and out, and especially loved her cymbidiums and white orchids. Joyce always made root beer floats for her grandchildren and then for her great grandchildren when they visited. Joyce and Bruce hosted their grandchildren and great grandchildren for weeklong summer visits, which often included tennis and sailing lessons.
Joyce was interred with her late husband, Bruce, at Mount Tamalpias Cemetery. A family celebration of Joyce's life will be held in July, 2024.

My condolences to Joyce's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren on their loss. I remember her kindness and cheerfulness during her days as Herb Riley's secretary at APL. Everything written in her obituary described the Joyce I knew at APL.
