Sister Judith Guevara, PBVM, (religious name Sister Mary Luke), a Sister of the Presentation for eighty years, died at Alma Via Residence, San Francisco on December 14, 2025. A native of San Francisco, she was the daughter of Eva Villasenor and Ignacio Guevara. Sister Judith leaves her loving Presentation Sisters. She was predeceased by her siblings Eva Erb, Therese Guevara, Rosalba Guevara, and Ignacio Guevara, and her nephew Karl. Living family remembers her with love: sister-in-law, Kathleen Guevara, nieces and nephews William, Nicole, Elisa Pouncey (Wayne), Christie, Carla, Stephen, Alex, Nick, Darren, Amanda, and Eric (Isabella).
Sister Judith's entire ministerial life was in education in one form or another beginning with teaching elementary school for a decade in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. She then began her nearly twenty years of teaching ministry at the high school level in 1959 at Our Lady of Loretto in Los Angeles and ending with five years at Presentation High School, San Jose. Following her classroom ministry, Sister Judith served in RCIA programs and other adult faith formation programs in Modesto, San Jose, and San Francisco, including Saint Peter Parish and Mission Dolores Parish. For eleven years at Saint Anne Parish in San Francisco, she headed the Adult Faith Formation program. Sister Judith's most recent ministry was the ministry of prayer.
Services will be held at Saint Anne's Church, San Francisco, on Saturday, December 20. Viewing at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial is December 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Oakland.
