Julia Castro Obituary

Julia M.A. Castro Died March 9, 2008 at home in San Francisco. Born in Berlin, El Salvador, on April 12, 1912 to Benjamin and Lucia Castro. Sister of Antonio, Josefa, Modesto, Jose Igancio and Conception Castro. After suffering and surviving the Influenza Epidemic of 1918, she went on to become an instructor of Catechism for children. She also worked in an orphanage home in San Salvador. In 1950 she decided to start a new life in the US, frequently revisiting the country of her birth. Whenever she would return from her many trips, she never neglected to bring souvenirs for all who awaited her return. She was employed as an embroiderer for Pasqual and Co. on Mission, between 2nd and 3rd for 20 years. Along the way she helped to raise many of her nieces and nephews, as well as helping her extended family however she could. She was very devoted to the Holy Spirit- Her nightly Rosaries will be fondly remembered. She was very active in the parishes of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe and St. Paul's, making tamales for the former for many years. She helped to raise nearly three generations of children, both in and out of the family. In her later years, though bed-ridden, she would still ask for her leche calientita and pupsas. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews: Maria Christina, Joseph, Jean Pierre, Lucia, Maria Isabella and Rosa Teresa; and great-nephews and nieces: Angelica, Marcel, Angelina and Michelangelo. Extended relations include the Caceres, Alvaranga, Castro, Aviles, Gastenaga, Molina and Virella families. Friends are invited to visit TODAY March 13, 3-9PM and attend a 7pm Vigil Service at Driscoll's Valencia St. Mortuary, 1465 Valencia St., between 25th and 26th Sts. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10AM at St. Paul Church, SF, followed by Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.

TIA JULIA WAS GOOD, FAITHFUL & A LOVING PERSON. GOD WAS FIRST IN HER LIFE. SHE TAUGHT US WHAT FAITH WAS ABOUT . SHE LOVED HER LECHE CALIENTITAS. SHE LOVED TO GO ON TRIPS. HER LAST TRIP WAS THE VIEW OF THE OCEAN & SHE LOVED WATCHING THE SUNSET. WE WILL NEVER FORGET HER. WE ARE GLAD SHE WAS IN OUR LIVES!

There are so many things that I can say but it would be so long that it would need its own website.

She was a beautiful person,to have had the absolute honor to have known. I honestly can't remember a time when I did not know her. She has stood by my family and I side through-out our whole lives. We will miss her dearly. She is the definition of a Saint. Her whole live she went without fear, because she knew that all life is in God's hands.
She tought my siblings and I that prayer should always be a part of your daily life.
To give thanks for what you have.
We were all blessed to be in Tia Julia's presents.
She is now in heaven smiling down on us.
We all can learn a thing or two from this wonderful, faithful woman.
I will always remember the last gift you gave me before you went home,
your beautiful smile.
So thank you Tia Julia for eveything.
